cheap mirrored furniture

One of the most popular home decorating features, regardless of design style, is mirrored bedroom furniture. The bedroom is one of the most important rooms in the house when it comes to decorating. Often considered a haven for homeowners, furniture chosen for this room in particular must be both functional and visually pleasing. Pieces that incorporate storage and mirrors meet both standards.

Mirrors provide several benefits in any room. Not only does it allow a person to see his or her reflection, which can be useful when getting dressed, applying makeup and other preparatory activities, but it also reflects the interior of the room where it is placed, which makes it look larger and more open. In addition, mirrors reflect light, which has the additional benefit of enhancing the lighting, especially in poorly illuminated areas.

By incorporating a mirror into a piece of furniture, a designer can maximize the benefits of having a mirror in a room without having to damage walls by hanging it or take up floor space with a free-standing style. A mirrored piece becomes dually functional.

Most commonly, dressers, chests of drawers and armoires are constructed with looking glasses either built in or attached. In some cases, they are built into bed headboards as well which really lends expansiveness to smaller areas. Dressers and chests of drawers include drawers for storing clothes or other items, and the mirror is usually attached on the top. More stylish models are available that have them built right into the surface. Armoires are designed as closet-like chambers for hanging clothes. They include doors, and a mirror may be hung inside one of the doors or recessed into the surface with attractive border molding framing it nicely. With dressers and chests of drawers, the mirror usually will be a separate piece that must be attached to the storage compartment section to make the piece easier and safer to move, though many of the finer antique pieces will have the reflective surfaces built in as part of the storage section itself.

Mirrored DresserMirrored furniture can be found in almost any style, from modern, contemporary designs, to art deco and classic designs. Antique mirrored furniture will likely be more ornate in design and more expensive than more recently constructed pieces and the wood used often may be of higher quality. Solid, hard woods, such as mahogany and cherry, were the standard material used for furnishings in previous generations, whereas today, press-board with a wood-grain overlay or veneer is common.

Sturdier models that have withstood the tests of time can be constructed from wood that is thicker and heavier than today’s press-board, and can be much harder to move around. It’s important, though, to match your budget with your needs. Expensive furnishings may not be necessary depending on the intended use. For a child’s bedroom, for instance, the pieces may only be used for a few years, and there may be more risk of damage, so cheap mirrored furniture may be preferable. Whatever the style chosen, mirrored bedroom furniture is both fashionable and useful in any décor.
